Description: Portion of memoir written by a member of the Canadian Mounted Rifles, relating to his work as a prisoner of war and subsequent escape from K47 August Victoria prisoner of war camp in Germany (February - August 1918), describing his work in the coal mines and an attempted strike made by the prisoners for reduced work shifts (February 1918), the details of a plan of escape made by himself and two friends and the story of their escape and arrival in the Netherlands where they were turned over to British authorities and eventually brought to the United Kingdom, discharged and returned home to Canada. Also included are a hand drawn map of the prison and a detailed map of the area near the Germany - Holland border with pencil markings showing German roads and outposts.
