"'The Play's the Thing' was written for the Bohemian Club in 1935 and has been re-enacted several times since. 'Christmas Eve at the Mermaid' ... was the Club's Christmas Play of 1940 and was repeated as the Christmas Play of 1959. 'What's in a Name' was composed and produced at the Club in 1961. All these short plays have Shakespearean themes and, by coincidence, Hamlet's soliloquy is featured in each of them ..."--Foreword.
Title within double-ruled border; text and vignette printed in black, rules printed in red.

Kislak Center Vilain-Wieck Collection of Private Presses copy presented to the Penn Libraries in 2015 by Jean-François Vilain and Roger Wieck.
Vilain-Wieck Collection copy has manuscript gift inscription ("To my good friend Clare Torrey from Loyall McLaren") in blue ink followed by a second manuscript gift inscription ("And from Clare Torrey (with the approbation of the authors) to Mary Hyde, President of the Shakespeare Association of America -") on front free endpaper.
Vilain-Wieck Collection copy has laid in manuscript note on letterhead of Clare M. Torrey to Mary Hyde dated "Saint Valentine's Day" in envelope addressed in manuscript to Mary Hyde.
