Summary:
Written as a summary of Ibn Sina's (d. 428/1037) work called al-Qanun fi't-Tıbb by Ibn al-Nafis (d. 687/1288), al-Mujaz fi't-Tıbb is a compilation of the subjects of al-Qanun fi't-Tıbb. The translation and commentary of el-Mujaz fi't-Tibb by Gelibolu Sürûrî has an important place in the Ottoman medical literature in terms of both translating a generally accepted work of the period into Turkish and the Turkishification of medical concepts. In this work, which also includes the Arabic text of el-Mujaz fi't-Tibb, Sürûrî first translated a word, phrase or sentence and then sometimes made comments, evaluations or explanations on the subject in the margins and sometimes in the text, thus giving his work the status of a commentary. This edition of Sürûrî's work is based on the copy in the Süleymaniye Library (Ayasofya collection, no. 3662).
