Summary:
What has been the role of art history as a discipline in the context of national museums, such as the National Museum of Colombia? These questions are decisive to reflect on the relationship between art and nation, as well as to think and object to the idea of a "national art" and, beyond that, to introduce additional concepts such as "transnational", among others, to enrich the debate. This publication includes the papers presented at the xxi Ernesto Restrepo Tirado Chair: Art, the museum and its stories, organized by the Universidad de los Andes and the National Museum of Colombia in October 2017. The three axes that guided the event and its discussions were the following: the conception of the national and the nation in relation to the history of art; writings and rewrites of art in the museum; and places for art history: museums, academia and training processes.
