Summary:

The guide is based on the experience gained during the LiFE in Quarries project. An EU LIFE Programme funded project. Running from 2015 to 2021, it demonstrated that operational biodiversity solutions can be proposed and implemented through controlled investments benefiting nature protection as well as the private sector. The general idea of the project was to define measures favorable to biodiversity acceptable to the private operator, legally and scientifically valid. The partnership forged on this basis included the private sector, regional authorities, scientists and NGOs. The project was led by FEDIEX (Fédération des Entreprises Extractives) in partnership with the Walloon region (Department of Nature and Forests), University of Liège – Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech – Biodiversity and Landscape Unit, Natagora asbl and the Scheldt Plain Nature Park.

Le guide est basé sur l’expérience acquise au cours du projet LIFE in Quarries. Le LIFE in Quarries (LIFE14 NAT/BE/000364) est un projet du programme LIFE financé par l’UE. Courant de 2015 à 2021, il a démontré que des solutions opérationnelles pour la biodiversité peuvent être proposées et mises en œuvre grâce à des investissements maîtrisés bénéficiant à la protection de la nature ainsi qu’au secteur privé. L’idée générale du projet était de définir des mesures favorables à la biodiversité acceptables pour l’opérateur privé, juridiquement et scientifiquement valables. Le partenariat noué sur cette base incluait le secteur privé, les autorités régionales, les scientifiques et les ONG. Le projet a été porté par la FEDIEX (Fédération des Entreprises Extractives) en partenariat avec la Région wallonne (Département de la Nature et des Forêts), l’Université de Liège – Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech – Cellule Biodiversité et Paysage, Natagora asbl et le Parc naturel des Plaines de l’Escaut.
