- The guide is based on the experience gained during the LiFE in Quarries project. An EU LIFE Programme funded project. Running from 2015 to 2021, it demonstrated that operational biodiversity solutions can be proposed and implemented through controlled investments benefiting nature protection as well as the private sector. The general idea of the project was to define measures favorable to biodiversity acceptable to the private operator, legally and scientifically valid. The partnership forged on this basis included the private sector, regional authorities, scientists and NGOs. The project was led by FEDIEX (FeÌdeÌration des Entreprises Extractives) in partnership with the Walloon region (Department of Nature and Forests), University of LieÌge - Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech - Biodiversity and Landscape Unit, Natagora asbl and the Scheldt Plain Nature Park.
- Le guide est baseÌ sur l'expeÌrience acquise au cours du projet LIFE in Quarries. Le LIFE in Quarries (LIFE14 NAT/BE/000364) est un projet du programme LIFE financeÌ par l'UE. Courant de 2015 aÌ 2021, il a deÌmontreÌ que des solutions opeÌrationnelles pour la biodiversiteÌ peuvent eÌtre proposeÌes et mises en Åuvre graÌce aÌ des investissements maiÌtriseÌs beÌneÌficiant aÌ la protection de la nature ainsi qu'au secteur priveÌ. L'ideÌe geÌneÌrale du projet eÌtait de deÌfinir des mesures favorables aÌ la biodiversiteÌ acceptables pour l'opeÌrateur priveÌ, juridiquement et scientifiquement valables. Le partenariat noueÌ sur cette base incluait le secteur priveÌ, les autoriteÌs reÌgionales, les scientifiques et les ONG. Le projet a eÌteÌ porteÌ par la FEDIEX (FeÌdeÌration des Entreprises Extractives) en partenariat avec la ReÌgion wallonne (DeÌpartement de la Nature et des ForeÌts), l'UniversiteÌ de LieÌge - Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech - Cellule BiodiversiteÌ et Paysage, Natagora asbl et le Parc naturel des Plaines de l'Escaut.
