This short-lived theatrical review was conducted by thirteen-year old John Howard Payne, who later became a famous actor and also wrote the song "Home Sweet Home." His magazine brought him into prominence although he at first tried to hide his activities from his father, who was opposed to his son's artistic ambitions. The Mirror contained theatrical criticism and biographical sketches of actors, along with some miscellaneous literary material, including poetry--Cf. American periodicals, 1741-1900.
