With facsim. of t.-p. of 1st ed.: Nevves from Virginia. The lost flocke triumphant. With the happy arrival of that famous and worthy knight St Thomas Gates: and the well reputed and valiant captaine Mr Christopher Newporte, and others, into England. With the maner of their distresse in the Iland of deuils (otherwise called Bermoothawes)...By R. Rich, gent., one of the voyage. London, Printed by E. Allde, and solde by Iohn Wright, 1610.
In 1864 a copy of the original ed. was discovered in Lord Charlemont's collection by J.O. Halliwell-Phillipps and reprinted by him in 1865 in a private ed. of 25 copies, of which 15 were afterwards destroyed by him. The present reprint is from the copy of the original ed., now in the Huth library.
Concerning the identity of the author, the editor remarks that "of his origin and kindred nothing is know, and nothing can be said." (Preface, p. v) The ascription to him of the Christian name of Richard (Dict. nat. biog.) seems unsustained.
