- Biography/History:
- This collection contains primarily dry plate negatives that were taken by the photography department of the PRT while surveying the construction and operation of the mass transit system.
- Summary:
- Collection contains street views taken in and around Philadelphia to document the construction of the Philadelphia Rapid Transit Company mass transit system. Emphasis is placed on the Market Street line, particularly on the blocks from Front to Broad Street. Depicts stations, PRT employees, subways, elevated railroads, power plants, piers and ferries. Includes busy downtown streets, residential streets, and outlying roads. Also contains interiors, markets, Atlantic City bathers, Willow Grove Park, and views of different forms of transportation.
