- Biography/History:
- William Wirt was born in Blandensburg, Maryland. In addition to his law practice, he served as Attorney General of the United States, Chancellor of the Eastern District of Virginia, and delegate to the State legislature of Virginia. Among his most important cases was the Cherokee Nation vs. Georgia. In 1833 Wirt began an experimental colony in Florida, populated with German immigrants.
