- Summary:
- In 1893 Simon and Jacob Lit with their sister, Rachel, built Lit Brothers department store at 8th and Market Streets in Philadelphia, Pa. In 1977 Lit Brothers was closed and the building placed on the National Register of Historic Places. On Oct. 29, 1985 Mellon Bank agreed to lease 60% of its space and rename it Mellon Independence Center.
