Summary:
The Romanian Folk Art Museum is a non-profit organization established in 1983 in Chicago. Its starting mission was to preserve and promote Romanian folk culture, and gradually it has expanded into a resource center for Americans and a common ground for the Romanian-American communities. It aims to promote and support Romanian artisans and to function as a bridge with Romania, developing educational and economic promotion projects. The largest European folkloric artifacts collection in the U.S. features costumes, rugs, pottery, furniture, and a full Transylvanian interior. Having organized exhibits in 10 states, it also functions as a cultural and economic bridge with Romania. The gift gallery has contemporary folk art, decorative arts, furniture, and rugs.
