Summary:
Prof. Jack H. Hetherington (of MSU) in 1975 listed his cat as a co-author for a paper submitted to Physical Review Letters. He did this because he had used the "royal we" in the paper, even though he was the sole author. Instead of retyping the entire paper, he simply added his cat (incognito) as co-author.
