- Summary:
- The first photo in the United States was a daguerrotype taken by Joseph Saxton, an employee at the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia. On October 16, 1839 Saxton took a photo of Central High School and the Pennsylvania Armory, two buildings across the street from the Mint. The photo resides at The Historical Society of Pennsylvania.
