- Summary:
- "If the road to reconciliation runs through a country's belly, Evita's book is a recipe for peace. The whole country, the entire world is invited to her table where everyone can feast on dishes like green bean bredie and cumin chicken with sweet potatoes. Who would rant and rave with their mouth full of walnut balls, or pampoenkoekies, or baked apple clowns? Liewe aarde, her generous helpings of rabbit in red wine or guinea fowl with sultanas and hanepoot would only provoke brotherly love. But take note, her book includes recipes for diabetics and vegetarians, Halaal and Kosher dishes, and even recipes to keep you in such lovely shape as she. Cooking for little ones, picnics or Christmas, Evita's cookery is delectable magic. Ook in Afrikaans as Evita se kossie sikelela"--Publisher's website.
- Evita Bezuidenhout is the creation/alter-ego of Pieter-Dirk Uys, an Afrikaner who was instrumental in helping to bring down apartheid through humour. Pieter-Dirk was able to poke fun at the ruling Afrikaners by creating Evita and making her an ambassador of the Afrikaner National Party to the ficticious black "homeland" of Bapetikosweti. Nelson Mandela credited Evita as one of his heroes. In the words of Vrou Bezuidenhout "Amandla Vrystaat!"
