- Summary:
- Sunglasses being sold in Philadelphia to gay tourists, awating the visit of the Pope Francis, September 26-27, 2015. So what was the deal with gay folk and the Pope? It all started with an off-the-cuff remark the Pope made to a reporter on an airplane, sometime/somewhere [not important]. He basically said if a gay person is basically moral and has a good heart, "Who am I to judge." Well, that set off a Pope love-fest amongst the gay community, in the U.S. and perhaps mondial. And Francis came to Philadephia and everything was fine. Then the Pope left and out came a story, from a conservative group, that the Pope had a private meeting in DC with that wack-a-doodle county clerk from Kentucky, Kim Davis (giving the impression that he supported her efforts to disregard Federal law about issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples). But then the Vatican put out a statement that the Pope did not have an official audience with Ms. Davis, but only that she was one "of many" that he briefly met in the Vatican embassy that day. His only official audience was with one of his former students from Argentina (a gay man who is now working as a caterer in Washington, DC). The former student (and his long-time same-sex partner) came to the Embassy and the Pope greeted them both warmly with embraces. So there you have it!
