Summary:
This series of films is a study of key moments and movements which have changed the history of 'Penn's green country town.' The first episode covers the span of years from the end of the Civil War to the Centennial Exhibition, and the stresses of a vibrant African-American community and the conflict with the Irish immigrant community. The second episode covers a single year in which 13,000 Philadelphians caught yellow fever, and 3000 did not survive the disease.
