- "法言"是杨雄具有代表性的哲学著作之一.汉书杨雄传载其自序去云:"雄见诸子各以其知舛驰,大氐诋訾圣人,即为怪迂析辩诡辞,以挠世事.虽小辩,终破大道而惑众,使溺于所闻,而不自知其非也.及太史公记六国,历楚,汉,讫麟止,不与圣人同是非,颇谬于经.故人时有问雄者,常用法应之,譔以为十三卷,象论语,号曰法言."足见本书之作,其主旨在于捍卫和发扬儒家学说.但与此同时,他也在一定程度上依据唯物主义观点,对当时流行于世的天人感应,鬼神图识等宗教迷信思想进行了批判,深得同时代唯物主义思想家桓谭的赞赏,并对东汉杰出的唯物主义哲学家王充有较大的影响.
