Summary:
The Uhle platform is a low platform located at the bottom of the west side of the Huaca de la Luna on the Moche site (Valle de Moche, Trujillo, Perú). Excavations carried out by a Franco-Peruvian team of the Moche International Programme between 1999 and 2009. This platform includes a large access courtyard to the north of the complex, a central building that is accessed by a corridor decorated with snakes in bas-relief and a ramp, as well as a space of agglutinated architecture that could serve as housing. The platform is separated from the western façade of the Huaca de la Luna by an empty space, which was filled little by little with the debris and remains of objects thrown from the top of the huaca when its surface was cleaned for the construction of a new architectural phase. They also led to the discovery of 57 Mochica graves, several human sacrifice areas, and large ceremonial deposits. Finally, social unrest caused several destructions during phase V before the Moche site was leveled and put into cultivation around the year 1000.
