Summary:
The following text was written right after the exhibition that marked the reopening of Teatro Capitólio, soon after the works carried out between 2008 and 2011, essential to guarantee the recovery, maintenance, requalification and technological modernization of that fundamental asset of the cultural heritage of Varginha, city of south of Minas Gerais. Detailed and theoretically grounded multidisciplinary work, the works ensured the continuity and safety of the city's beautiful municipal theater. The decision to recover the theater and definitively solve the structural problem of the building and the roof was taken by Mayor Mauro Tadeu Teixeira (1953-2010), 2001-2008 administration, and the handover took place in the following administration, 2009-2012, of the Mayor Eduardo Carvalho (1963). Nonetheless, the curators and photographers of that exhibition decided to make new efforts to ensure the transposition of that information and images into an easier-to-use support: a physical or virtual book. More than a rescue of work, the rescue of the history of the property and the city is guaranteed. Conceived by industrialist José Navarra, the Municipal Theatre Capitólio was designed by engineer Frisoti Agostini and built by the brothers Antônio and Celestino Pires, opened in 1927. The decorative elements of the façade and interior, characteristic of the eclectic period, are attributed to the Italian Alexandre Valatti.
