- The bulk of the collection consists of letters and papers of Edward Needles Kirk, an Illinois lawyer killed in the U.S. Civil War; however various earlier members of the family are represented by their letters, business agreements, marriage certificates, wills, as well as correspondence of his wife, Eliza Marcella Cameron Kirk (later Mrs. Charles A. Thomas), etc.
