Summary:

Fifty years of activity as a gallery owner have made Albert Baronian a key figure in the history of the plastic arts in Belgium. Born in Uccle in 1946, it was indeed in 1973, after having first devoted himself to the edition of multiples, that he inaugurated his first gallery, which for nearly half a century would have various addresses and international collaborations. After his first exhibitions devoted to geometric abstraction - Jo Delahaut in particular, to whom he is close -, it will be Gilberto Zorio, Giulio Paolini, Mario Merz and the other representatives of Arte povera then the artists of the German Neue Wilden, with Lionel Estève, Gilbert and Georges or Wang Du, alongside the Belgians Bernd Lohaus, Michel Frère, Marc Trivier, Sophie Whettnall, Didier Vermeiren or Patrick Corillon, to name just a few names from an impressive list. For the thirty-fifth anniversary of its gallery, La Centrale Electrique in Brussels devoted in 2009 an important exhibition to a selection of twenty-five international artists who were shown by Albert Baronian, Nothing is permanent, the title also of the work published in the editions The stolen letter, reproducing various archives and an interview with Virginie Devillez. Albert Baronian had not, however, exhausted all the subjects close to his heart, his concerns, his passions as his anger, having essentially confided in his profession. Fifteen years have since passed, new figures have come to join the gallery, which has itself experienced other addresses, other collaborations, new directions.

Cinquante années d'activité de galeriste ont fait d'Albert Baronian un personnage incontournable dans l'histoire des arts plastiques en Belgique. Né à Uccle en 1946, c'est en effet en 1973, après s'être d'abord consacré à l'édition de multiples, qu'il inaugure sa première galerie, laquelle connaîtra près d'un demi-siècle durant, diverses adresses et collaborations internationales. Après ses premières expositions consacrées à l'abstraction géométrique - Jo Delahaut notamment dont il est proche -, ce seront Gilberto Zorio, Giulio Paolini, Mario Merz et les autres représentants de l'Arte povera puis les artistes de la Neue Wilden allemande, avec Lionel Estève, Gilbert and Georges ou Wang Du, aux côtés des Belges Bernd Lohaus, Michel Frère, Marc Trivier, Sophie Whettnall, Didier Vermeiren ou Patrick Corillon, pour ne citer que quelques noms parmi une liste impressionnante. Pour le trente-cinquième anniversaire de sa galerie, La Centrale électrique à Bruxelles consacrait en 2009 une importante exposition à une sélection de vingt-cinq artistes internationaux qui furent montrés par Albert Baronian , Nothing is permanent, le titre également de l'ouvrage paru aux éditions La lettre volée, reproduisant diverses archives et un entretien avec Virginie Devillez. Albert Baronian n'avait cependant pas épuisé l'ensemble des sujets qui lui tenaient à cour, ses préoccupations, ses passions comme ses colères, s'étant essentiellement confié sur sa profession. Quinze années se sont depuis écoulées, de nouvelles figures sont venues rejoindre la galerie, laquelle a elle-même connu d'autres adresses, d'autres collaborations, de nouvelles orientations.
