- Summary:
- "Asian Glass: Selections from The Corning Museum of Glass presents more than 50 objects from the Museum's permanent collection. The objects featured in this publication span almost 2,500 years and are associated with glassmaking traditions across the Asian continent, from the Mediterranean shores of western Asia to present-day India, China, and Japan. They demonstrate the influences of more established traditions of hardstone carving and ceramic production, as well as of blown vessels imported as luxury goods from glassmaking workshops in present-day Europe and the Middle East. From beads to altar sets, reverse-painted pictures to snuff bottles, the entries in this volume demonstrate the many designs, technologies, and functions of glass in Asia before the mid-twentieth century and reveal interconnections between Eastern and Western cultures. Many of the object are published here for the first time, incorporating new research and photography."--Front flap.
