Summary:
This is a manuscript of a record of a judicial hearing by the parnassim of Binswangen for their cross-examination of a Binswangen resident, Löb ben Shelomoh Mosheh; the purpose of this tribunal was to determine back taxes owed or suggested through other records than those supplied to the parnassim for their yearly tax collection. Löb was determined to have possibly owed sums from a record in the Binswangen pinkas (he participated in years of business and trade with his brother-in-law, Barukh ben Naftali, a philanthropist in Erlangen); Löb told the tribunal that he was too timid to apologize to the entire community (likely a pulpit apology; "לא איש דברים הוא") yet he paid dues that he was told to, even those determined ex gratia. Written in 18 lines; seventeen signatures (aligned to the right margin). Item stained and discolored from previous water damage.
