Summary:
The certainty that the civil war in El Salvador would not be defined exclusively in military terms, but in the capacity of each one of the actors to conquer the consciences of the Salvadorans and win for themselves the international public opinion, was an element shared by the FMLN, the American advisers and, to a lesser extent, the High Command of the Armed Forces. Under this conception, the confrontation between the revolutionary movement and the government forces was expressed in the political and military sphere, but also in the cultural field and in the field of communication and propaganda. War by other means addresses this other dimension of armed confrontation, analyzing the dissemination strategies and communicative projects promoted by Salvadoran guerrilla organizations, from their emergence in the early seventies, to the signing of the 1992 Peace Accords. This book highlights the need to incorporate the communicative dimension to the study of Latin American insurgent experiences. In this sense, the author proposes a specific analysis model that allows the insertion of communication policies within the framework of the general mobilization strategy of revolutionary organizations.
