Summary:

Medal of white metal (tin alloy) with silvered surface, bas-relief image of an enslaved African in chains signed with the initials TW and the motto "Am I not a man and a brother?" on obverse, text "Whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them" on reverse. The image and motto first appeared on a Wedgwood jasperware medal modelled by William Hackwood to be issued after the formation of the Society for the Abolition of the Slave Trade in 1787, and the initials TW may refer to Thomas Wyon the Elder (1767-1830), who worked in Birmingham for the Wyon engraving business before moving to London in 1800 (Gedge).
