- Summary:
- This is a letter written to David Berlin, Tuesday 2 Shevaṭ 5529 (10 January 1769) by Benjamin Veitel Ephraim, expressing his satisfaction over the apparent change in fortune that the plaintiff in his case, 'F.M. the important', (רפ"מ הרמה) accepted the written directive from David Berlin to the plaintiff of endorsement of the author's proof of payment in the case presided over by Saul Lowenstamm in Amsterdam (see CAJS Rar Ms 559c); additionally, a new detail arose in the suit; a former Amsterdam associate of Ephraim named Martinius, who had recently testified against the author in Amsterdam, had an earlier grievance which occurred in Hamburg over Martinius' refusal to lend him 1500 Courant Heller for a flash investment (which seems to have caused an end to their business relationship). This suit is likely related to the episode of transfer of the silver factory of Benjamin Veitel Ephraim's father-in-law, Levin Moses Phillip of Amsterdam (also a cousin to Ephraim's father, Veitel Heine Ephraim) following his death; Ephraim's other documents written to David Berlin are 559c and 559j).
