- "The Rev Walters, beginning from a standpoint of the character of an individual and a nation will always be what it's literature is and therefore good and moral literature is required, explores a series of popular views on the benefits of literature which include that novels convey useful knowledge; that novels refine the taste and conversation; that novels give a knowledge of human nature; that novels serve the cause of morality and religion. He concludes with a series of 'positive objections' which include that the reading of novels is 'criminal waste of time;' that novels cause a dislike of solid and serious reading, and more."--Vendor's description.
