- Rainer Fetting (Wilhemshaven, 1949) behoorde in de jaren tachtig tot de ?Neue Wilde?, een groep jonge Duitse kunstenaars die zorgde voor een herwaardering van de figuratieve schilderkunst.0In zijn werk brengt hij langdurig eerbetoon aan Vincent van Gogh, de vader van de moderne schilderkunst. Hij schilderde hem talloze malen in expressieve voorstellingen bij de Berlijnse muur en in de New York City Subway. Als een schaduw plaatste hij de schilder Paul Gauguin achter Vincent. Hij noemde die scene ?Ruckkehr der Giganten?. Steeds keert Van Gogh weer terug in het werk van Rainer Fetting.
