Summary:
"While visiting Beirut to attend a glamorous gala, iconic French actress Catherine Deneuve insists :Je veux voir" ("I want to see"), referring to the carnage wrought against innocent Lebanese civilians during Israel's attack on Lebanon in the summer of 2006. "I feel it's impossible to stay on the fringe," she adds, and she means it. Filmmakers Khalil Joreige and Joana Hadjithomas know first-hand the devastation Deneuve and chauffeur-actor Rabih Mroué will witness. They arrange a meeting between the two actors-captured on camera-before they embark together on a surprisingly gorgeous two-hour drive to southern Lebanon, returning in time for her appointed engagement. The simplicity of the plot is in stark contrast with the ravaged landscape seen through the car window. I Want to See is not the usual Hollywood scenario of a self-aggrandizing movie star meeting with a facilitator to find the right charity for his or her marketing image. Instead, with a mix of scripted drama and spontaneous travelogue, this mesmerizing and innovative film resonates with sincerity and curiosity and takes the viewer through a stunning landscape torn apart by decades of war"--Publisher's web site.
