These volumes include b&w historical illustrations and contemporary battle maps on most pages, plus tables of facts and statistics. Volume 3 (not illustrated) compiles 46 documents from many primary sources, such as letters, treaties, legislation, military orders, speeches, diaries and memoirs, songs, and war reporters' dispatches. Each document includes a brief overview offering background on the author, the document, and its importance in the war.
