Summary:
This resource for librarians, teachers, mental health professionals, and parents offers a guide to grief literature. Early chapter overviews review major concepts of grieving and the issues encountered by grieving children, adolescents, and adults. Later chapters address specific topics such as children and loss, loss of a child, death of a spouse, young adults and grief, and grief and religion. These chapters provide annotated lists of English-language print and nonprint resources for children, adolescents, and adults. While emphasis is on print resources, the book also lists audio and video recordings, e-books, websites, and national organizations. Nonfiction is recommended for adults, with both fiction and nonfiction recommended for children and adolescents. The recommended books were identified using Books in Print Online and other sources. Criteria for selection included appropriateness for intended audience and factuality based on accepted theories and research. An appendix offers annotated entries on support organizations. Grover is affiliated with the School of Library and Information Management at Emporia State University. Fowler is an information specialist.
