Furness copy has on verso of front free endpaper dated 20th-century manuscript inscription ("To Helen Kate Furness from her grandfather Horace Howard Furness with the most earnest wish that she should allow no day of her life to pass without reading a chapter, or a portion of a chapter at least, of the New Testament. 18 May, 1902.") recording the gift of this volume from Horace Howard Furness (1833-1912) to Helen Kate Furness (later Thompson; 1887-1965).
