- First Chief Rabbi of Haifa (1906-1961); born in Rietavas, Lithuania (near Kaunas) and studied at the Kelm Yeshiva under Simḥah Zissel Broida; installed by Joseph Hayyim Sonnenfeld and Abraham Isaac Kook.

- Correspondence of Baruch Markus, first Chief Rabbi of Haifa; one handwritten letter to Abraham Isaac Kook, 27 Tamuz [5]682 [23 July 1922], regarding correspondence from Warsaw and another from Germany; and three formal typed letters, concerning rabbinical matters, with his autograph and that of Yehoshua Kaniel (1896-1970, then second to the Chief Rabbi, later Chief Rabbi of Haifa after 1961).
