- Notes:
- "The first lecture discusses the Church's premise of total depravity, and answers the basis question of all speculative theology: "What is man by nature?."
- "The second lecture considers the Church's method of justification, and discusses the doctrine of "vicarious atonement."
- "These lectures were delivered in Minerva Hall, New Orleans, on Sunday evenings, the 18th and 25th of August, 1872. They have been carefully revised, and are now published by the author, and thrown out upon the world as a "wee bit of truth," trusting that they may be as "bread cast upon the waters which shall be gathered many days." Let not prejudice, nor pride of self-knowledge, nor fear, prevent thee, oh, fellow pilgrim! from searching into these things. New Orleans, June 12th 1873."
