Horrid murder : particulars of that barbarous murder committed in a cottage near Griff, on Sept. 25th, 1823, by John Hanson. A young woman had been at service, and took lodgings in the cottage on her road home, and Hanson and his wife knowing that she had her wages, resolved to murder her while she was sleeping along with their own daughter : which the young woman overhearing, changed her place, and the murderers cut the throat of their own daughter, which they discovered when they were putting the body in a hole in the garden, upon which the mother fell on the body senseless, and the young woman giving the alarm the man was taken into custody.
