Summary:
Architect Jan Stuyt (1868-1934) has been of great value to the city of Heerlen. He was the first to partly realize ideas about urban planning in this region. Not only do iconic buildings such as the Midwifery School and the Craft School belong to him, but his hand is still visible in the city's street plan. Jan Stuyt built throughout the Netherlands and was brought in in the Eastern Mining Region because Heerlen expanded from village to city due to the rise of the coal mines. Stuyt built churches, schools, villas and many workers' houses. They still partly determine the identity of what is now called Parkstad. Exhibition: De Vondst, Heerlen, the Netherlands (30.10.2021-1.3.2022)
