- Biography/History:
- Felice Finzi (פינחס בן יום-טוב פינצי), born in Corregio, 1814, rabbi in Busseto and Genoa, died 1896.
- Summary:
- This is a manuscript copy of the responsum written by Moses Isserles defending the accepted practice in Mähren (Moravia) to consume unkosher wine (sṭam yenam, סתם יינם, unkosher wine purchased from dealers and wine producers and separate from Sacramental or libation wine; this responsum terms it יין כותים) and his permission to consume it for ill patients and those who require it for health. The manuscript was copied (and the text introduced) by Felice Finzi likely for archival use; paragraph of approbation (unsigned) written in Monticelli (d'Ongino, near Bologna), likely in the hand of Emilio Donato Bachi (1815-1885), a halakhic thinker and innovator. The use of the name form מהרמא"י to refer to Isserles is used in the Krakow 1639-40 and Hanau 1709-10 editions of the work (subsequent editions internally censored this responsa due to controversy). Written in an Italian semicursive script; additional note written in an Italian cursive script; originally a bifolium now pressed flat.
