- Summary:
- Description: Scope/Content: Ile-Igbon: Mambo [band]Description: Mambo is the name given the band and style of music played by such an ensemble. It was the popular music of small-town Yoruba youth. The name is taken from Latin-American music, though it bears little resemblance to the Cuban mambo. The music may have resulted from adoption/indigenization of certain elements like the 3:2 clave, which was blended with the standard konkolo timeline rhythm and performed with Yoruba instrumentation. Local topical lyrics in Yoruba, as well as Christian hymns and melodies would be incorporated. Instrumentation includes akuba/ogidan, agogo, samba drum, and seke-seke. Includes five selections.
