Description: Scope/Content: Kete ensemble, Abeokuta: 1. Kete music 2. Batakoto 3. Kongirikoko; Iya'lu player-Salawu Akinwande; lead singer-Lawrence Jauru, OgunbayoDescription:While played on kete drums (see OMR001), batakoto is considered a different style of music, one that is older and that appeals to an older generation, with a possible historical link to the bata tradition (Thieme 1969: 121). Kongirikoko, while apparently played on kete drums here, represents the name of a drum in the lukorigi ensemble, which Thieme classifies as part of the bembe family (1969: 155). 00:00 - Kete 12:59 - Batakoto 24:10 - Kongirikoko.
