Description: Scope/Content: Timi's Ipedi Festival. Ifa singing - Odu; Ifa Drums and AgogoDescription: The sacred verses (odu) of the Yoruba oracle Orunmila, or Ifa, are being sung here in a responsorial fashion. The musical ensemble which backs the choral singing is comprised of three single-membrane peg-constructed drums: ipese (agbagbule), aran (iya'lu/lead drum), and afere (emele). The drums are accompanied by an ensemble of four iron double-bells known as agogo (Thieme 1969: 249).
