Summary:
This is a manuscript court document of a testimony given by Wolf Mejlich, a merchant from Brody who had relocated to Lublin and was making a claim that he is the father of a child (possibly who was raised or living in a hostel or a monastery) named Berek; according to the claim, the child was born to Wolf and Śara Rivḳah Eisen, 35 years old, on January 19, 1836, and had been given the name Barukh at his circumcision, and Wolf had no ability to pay the tax to enter the information to the authorities at the time. Two witnesses, Icka Bucher Wilnerer (Yitsḥaḳ Bokher of Vilnius) and Icka Miller Letnika (Yitsḥaḳ Miller of Letnica) testified on behalf of the claimant. Written in a Polish cursive script in a secretarial hand; item originally a bifolium now pressed flat; insignias and document number at the top of the document (recto), with a blind stamp at the center; signature of judge, Wladus, at center of the end of the document (verso).
