Summary:
Hebrew 19th century commonplace book, created as a vade-mecum for ethical portions of rabbinic literature (title statement on f. 3v: "דרך לימודי בספרים הנמצאים באמתחותינו העתקתי איזה דברים שנראו לי חידוש לענ"ד הגם שלכל תופסי התורה אינם חידוש ובאיזה מקומות קיצרתי..."; excerpts from (for examples) Daʻat ḳedoshim (David ben Aharon Ha-kohen; Livorno 1839; f. 4r), Reshit ḥokhmah (Elijah de Vidas; f. 36r), Tomer Devorah (Moses Cordovero), and other ethical and Aggadic works; many of the later portions (including additional paper added to the codex, comprised of all following f. 92, and all folios following 105 are blue-grey paper) are of longer quotes, and comprised of material surrounding Messianic themes. A quote in Greek in Hebrew characters (f. 111v) suggests that this item originated in Greece. Written in a Solitreo cursive script, likely at the third quarter of the 19th century. Bound in contemporary leather, with blind-tooled diamond crisscross across boards.
