- Weekly Reader News. Edition 4-6 was an American educational magazine published monthly by Weekly Reader Corporation. Launched in 1949, it published age-appropriate news stories and activities for upper elementary students, before ceasing publication in 2012.Each issue featured original student-friendly articles and news stories (at differentiated reading levels) to develop reading comprehension and critical-thinking skills, as well as promote a deeper understanding of current news for students in fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade. It was also accompanied by a separate teachers edition that contained guides and lesson plans to build vocabulary and comprehension skills.
