Summary:
Every year, top-level market regulators, academics and legal and economic practitioners contribute to the Annual Competition Workshop organised at the European University Institute in Florence. The Co-Directors of the Workshop are Philip Lowe, Mel Marquis and Giorgio Monti. Workshop participants address and critically analyse a particular set of topical issues in the field of competition law and policy. The proceedings are published in Hart's European Competition Law Annual series. This is the seventeenth in the ECLA series. It encompasses numerous chapters that examine competition policy and its relationships with regulatory and other public policies, against the general background of prolonged economic crisis. In these chapters the contributors discuss legal and economic issues relating to network industries, industrial, environmental and trade policy, and intellectual property and innovation policies, among others. Comparative views and the views of judges from different jurisdiction are provided, and techniques for mediating among different policy objectives and frameworks are discussed. In addition to other regular contributors, Workshop participants in 2012 included: Ginevra Bruzzone; Geert Goeteyn; Prof. Pierre Larouche; Prof. Alexandre de Streel Dr. Alexander Italianer; Prof. Arjen W.H.
