Summary:
Safety has been ranked as the number one concern for the acceptance and adoption of automated vehicles since safety has driven some of the most complex requirements in the development of self-driving vehicles. Recent fatal accidents involving self-driving vehicles have uncovered issues in the way some automated vehicle companies approach the design, testing, verification, and validation of their products. The role of ISO 26262 addresses the concept of safety for self-driving vehicles through the inclusion of 10 recent and highly relevent SAE technical papers. Topics that these papers feature include model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and the use of SysML language in a management-based approach to safety.
Contents:
Chapter 1. System engineering for automated software update of automotive electronics
Chapter 2. Testing of real-time criteria in ISO 26262 related projects
maximizing productivity using a certified COTS test automation tool
Chapter 3. Safe and secure development: challenges and opportunities
Chapter 4. Steering control based on the yaw rate and projected steering wheel angle in evasion maneuvers
Chapter 5. Basic autonomous vehicle controller development through modeling and simulation
Chapter 6. A study of automatic allocation of automotive safety requirements in two modes: components and failure modes
Chapter 7. An integrated approach to requirements development and hazard analysis
Chapter 8. Integration of multiple active safety systems using STPA
Chapter 9. Integrating STPA into ISO 26262 process for requirement development
Chapter 10. The development of safety cases for an autonomous vehicle: a comparative study on different methods.
