Notes:
Elementos (Elements) is a set of four short pieces based upon elementary features of music. These elements build an extremely focused, simple and direct musical discourse. In the first movement Melodia, melody is at centre stage, permeating all three instruments. It is the momentary creator of harmony, but also what suggests other musical materials such as the diatonic scale or the triadic chord. In the second movement, the idea of ostinato, together with its gradual transformations, underlies the music. The third movement is centred on pulse, a basilar element of music. The pulse is taken not as something implicit, but as a raw material for musical construction. In very subtle ways the sense of metre arises and fades out. Sonoridade deals with harmonic sonority in a very elementary way as a set of chords are united by simple melodic segments.
