Notes:
This work was premiered in Marseille and will be represented in Shanghai. It was inspired by the fact that both are coastal cities. This work, therefore, uses sounds of the sea as main material, and through the interaction and combination of electronic music and real instrumental sounds, presents a dialogue and fusion between concrete aquatic and urban sounds, and abstract musical elements. The traditional Sheng is often blown like still water, and the music driven by strong rhythmical energy, is expressing vivid colours. As a soloist and prominent instrument of the piece, its role is mimetic, evocative of waves and wind, but also plays a bridging role, - due to its similarities with digital sounds -,between acoustic western instruements and the electronics. The whole piece can be perceived as five sonic images, presenting autonomous situations.
