Notes:
Roses for soprano and double bass (first book, 2008-10)This bouquet of roses constitutes a collection of short duets for soprano and double bass setting in music the poems of Rilke. These poems were written in French by Rilke at the end of his life, while he stayed in Valais, in Switzerland. These poems fascinate me by their transparency, their evocation of the unspeakable by the means of what is most familiar to us: windows, orchards, lamps and here roses. I wanted, through the invention of flexible and varied melodic lines, to remain the simplest possible, as closely as possible to the obviousness and of the tenderness of the words of Rilke. These duets form a labyrinth of motives which answer, vary freely from a poem to the other one; these roses can be also executed, alternately or not, by the soprano alone - or the double bass alone. No obligation to interpret them in the order of the score, or in their entirety : the musicians have the entire liberty to compose their own bouquet.
