In front of this poem of the paroxysm, of the spiritual and physical heroism, of this ecstasy of the inaccessible, of this quest of absolute, my work could only be a failure. It is a priori a failure by sheltering itself behind a fragmentary form, recognizing the necessary incompletion and the vanity of this work.Victor Segalen, in spite of two attempts, never came into Thibet. His ode evokes a real country as much as a fantasized, imaginary, inaccessible one; my piece refers to this ode, to this Thibet.
