Notes:
umKurven explores the fine line between very pure, overtone-based sounds and their transformation into inharmonious, noisy sounds. The music constantly moves along this line thereby establishing a stylized compositional tightrope walk between the utopian idea of perfect purity and its inevitable unattainability. Realizing that inherent to these types of concepts is a danger of embroidering the sophisticated design of the vertical layer, I have recently directed my research towards the development of a conclusive horizontal morphogenesis: This leads to discontinuous lines that are intricate, winding, jagged, yet always traceable. These aspects likewise apply to my conception of form. The musical processes in umKurven repeatedly falter and in the end the music cuts off rather abruptly. Once we have completed the final turns of our path of life we can only believe and hope as we won ́t be able to know and determine what we will discover there.
